The Sabre & Saddle Cigar Co Ltd. is an effort by Gareth Pearce to honour Britain's armed forces and the veteran’s community with the wider cigar community.
It began as an idea, which rapidly grew into a concept, with a bit of encouragement, market research and a little daring. I incorporated the company in April of 2025, with Companies House, U.K, and researched suppliers, who could work with us to produce blend concepts for a series of cigars intended to invoke the sense of humour that H.M Forces has, particularly, when different services reference each other. I have floated a number of other ideas for more blends, from sombre acts of remembrance, to honouring famous battles and regiments, ships, and squadrons to friends who are also cigar enthusiasts and I feel that this has produced a great selection to be launched over time.
In the last weeks, I have also finalised our brand’s logo, which I would like to elaborate on in this blog post.
I served in a British Army cavalry regiment, 1st The Queen’s Dragoon Guards (The Welsh Cavalry) from September 2002 until December 2012.

Back in the days before tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, both regiments fought gallantly on horseback, Dragoon Guards were primarily heavy cavalry units in the British Army, known for their role in delivering shock action on the battlefield and for reconnaissance and scouting duties. They were equipped to fight both mounted and dismounted, with sabers and firearms, and served in various conflicts throughout the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries.

On the modern battlefield, 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards, are a reconnaissance regiment specializing in mounted reconnaissance and intelligence gathering for the British Army. They act as the "eyes and ears" of the battlefield, utilizing vehicles like the Jackal 2 and Coyote for rapid deployment and information gathering.

The saddle that we opted for, is an ornately decorated 1914 pattern cavalry saddle. Saddles of this type were not typically decorated, and certainly not in the way that we had the image of this one decorated. However, in building a cigar brand, we wanted the saddle to be dressed up a little, in order to help represent the ornate nature of the British Armed Forces on parade. The decoration of the saddle helps to tie this all together, as does the way that we have done the text; in the good old fashioned “Old English Text” font. We hope that you all agree that the brand logo looks elegant and refined, as we do.
So what’s in the future of Sabre & Saddle? Well, we next have some administrative tasks to handle, which may take some time to sort out. However, we’ll update you all on that, when we have completed these tasks.
So stay smokey, and thank you for joining us on this mad journey!
